France outclassed Morocco yesterday evening and Argentina ran riot against Croatia. Lionel Messi has, yet again, been in impressive form and produced another magical display in this year's tournament. Both Kylian Mbappe and Messi now are fighting for the golden boot with 5 goals each,  Mbappe impressively has not scored one from the spot as of yet. The two of them already have one hand on the prestigious World Cup trophy but will have to face each other in an ultimate showdown. The Moroccans gave their hearts ♒out on the pitch yesterday but couldn't get a goal for their efforts, despite Jawad El Yamiq hitting the post from an impressive overhead kick.

Croatia will face Morocco in the 3rd place playoff which will decide who gets the bronze medals. Ironically, they will face the same opposition they faced in their first game of the tournament.Croatia and their talisman Luka Modric will be eager to get a better result than the 0-0 they achieved the last time out however Morocco will do everything in their power to stop this from happening. For the 2nd World Cup in a row, two teams that were in the same group face eacho❀ther once again in the 3rd place Playoff after Belgium and England did the same in 2018.

Given recent performances in the World Cup qualification journey, as well as international tournaments such as the EURO 2021, Copa América, AFCON, and the UEFA Nations League, we could start to see some clearer signs of who the emerging favourites of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar are, and how they’re set to perform.

Bar some classic World Cup upsets, the favourites have mostly remained the same throughout the group stages – with the exception of Germany, who unfortunately suffered a terrible competition before being eliminated in the group stage.

Brazil

Brazil are looking solid defensively and efficient in attack, having scored 12 goals and only conceded twice in six games on their way to the Copa América final,🍬 which they eventually lost to Argentina. The same holds for the World Cup qualification journey, which has seen them scoring 40 goals and only conceding five in 17 qualification matches.

Apart from the Copa América final, Brazil hasn’t lost any of the matches mentioned. They are also currently no. 1 in the FIFA World Rankings, so having them as the favourites 🌟to win isn’t really that surprising, given the form they’re in.

They ended the World Cup qualifiers in top spot having won 14 games and only drawing three times – two of which being against rivals Argentina.

The tournament favourites got off to a great a start with a convincing win against a strong Serbia team. 𓄧They have also secured their spot in the next round and are set to face South Korea in the round of 16.

France

Despit🎐e going out early in the EURO 2020 after a surprise comeback by Switzerland in the Round of 16, France had a convincing qualification journey, winnꩲing five out of eight matches and only conceding 3 goals.

They also managed to win the UEFA Nations League, which means they are now the defending champions of the World Cup and the Nations League simultaneously. However, tꦕhey won’t be able to defend their Nations League title as they didn’t qualify for the final rounds.

France will be thankful for their unmatched squad depth in the international scene, with a number of key players being sidelined through injury. The main players include Paul Pogba, N’Golo Kante, and Ballon D’or winner Karim Benzema.

France quickly put the World Cup winners’ curse to bed with a 4-1 victory over Australia and a crucial 2-1 win against group rivals Denmark, securing their place in the round of 16. They then went on to score a smashing 3-1 ag𒉰ainst Poland, and are now set to face England in the quarter-finals.

Argentina

Argentina have fluctuated between boasting a great side to struggling to perform in recent years. World Cup finalists in 2014, the Albicelestes followed up by losing out in the round of 16 to eventual winners France. This year their squad is much stronger and can call⛦ up many top-class players.

Reportedly Leo Messi’s last World Cup, this could be a memorable one. Fresh off the back of their 2021 Copa América win – the nation’s first since 1993 – Argentina finds themselves in a strong position, having also been unbeaten in the build up to the World Cup.

In fact, Argentina was unbeaten for 32 matches, including the 2022 Finaliss🔥ima, CONMEBOL – UEF🔜A Cup of Champions against Italy.

In one of the greatest World Cup upsets, Argentina threw their record out the window with a shock🅰 defeat to a great Saudi Arabia side 2-1 during the group stage. However, came back in the next match against Mexico, winning 2-0. With Messi firing on all cylinders with two goals in two games, they then went on to beat Poland, qualifying for the round of 16, where they beat Australia 2-1. They now face the mighty Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

England

In the EURO 2020, England were a couple of penalties away from winning their first international title since 1966, but, sadly, it was not to be. Since then, the players in the sq♚uad have mostly maintained their top performance levels and will be eager to get the World Cup campaign started a🌄s soon as possible.

In the 10 World Cup Qualifier games played since the EURO 2020 final, England scored 39 goals and conceded three, albeit their last match ⛎as a 10-0 thrashing of San M✃arino.

On the other hand, the Three Lions were unbelievably poor in the UEFA Nations League. Having not won a single game throughout the campaign, including a shock 4-0 defeat to Hungary, England find themselves relegated to League B.

Betting on England has been slightly tricky so far this competition. A brilliant 6-2 against Iran was a great start, especially since Iran have since beaten Wales. However, the Three Lions followed that up with a tame 0-0 draw against USA. They bounced back with a 3-0 victory against Wales and progressed to the round of 16, where they comfortably defeated Senegal 3-0. The upcom🦄ing quarter-final against France is definitely set to be their great🌼est challenge this tournament so far, especially with a fiery, in-form Kylian Mbappé facing them.

Check our predictions on KickForm:

Spain

Spain have been slowly but surely transitioning from the World Cup (2010) and Double EURO Championship (2008, 2012) winning side to a younger side with the likes of Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, Ferran Torres, and Eric Garcia all getting thei🌃r chance to wear their national team’s shirt in recent matches.

As they build more consistency with their respective clubs, the national team is bound to become better and better. Spain’s performance in the most recent European competitions has shown a lot of flair but♚ a slight lack of experience.

Spain reached the semi-finals of the previous European Championships, only losing out to eventual winners Italy on penalties. They have also qualified for the UEFA Nations league semi-finals.

Spain𒁃 started strong with a spectacular 7-0 victory over Costa Rica, though their second match wasn’t as dramatic with a 1-1 draw against a struggling Germany side. In another twist, they then suffered a shocking 2-1 loss against Japan, though they still managed to qualify for the round of 16 through goal difference. Spain is now set to face Morocco, with supporters hoping fervently for a ♏return to the form displayed at the beginning of the tournament.

Germany – ELIMINATED

Throughout the years, Germany have always proven to be one of the most consistently good teams in world football, having only lost one World Cup qualifier in the past 20 years against North Macedonia in this campaign.

Under new ex-Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick, Germany have played 10 matches, scored 36 goals, and conceded four. The fact that seven players currently play for Bayern Munich is probably an advantage to them since they already know his style of play. When at the top of their game, Germany is a force to be reckoned with – Brazil can confirm that from first-hand experience.

Similarly to England, Germany struggled in the Nations League, finishing third with just one win and four draws. Unfortunately, they continued that form with yet another World Cup shock, losing 2-1 to Japan. Although their following draw against Spain was a much more positive result, as well as their resounding 4-2 victory against Costa Rica, this wasn't enough to see them through to the knockouts due to Japan beating Spain. As a result, goal difference sent Die Mannschaft home to tওhe heartb𝓰reak of many, with their opening defeat against the Japanese having ultimately cost them everything.

Note: At the time of writing, the group stage has now ended. Check back soon for our updated predictions!

With the World Cup draw completed, the below are the groups that will be setting the scene for the early stages of the tournament. To give yourself a good head start, be sure to check out our guide on making accumulators, as well as our list of the best UK football betting sites!

  • List Icon

    Group A:

  • List Icon

    Qatar (Host), Netherlands, Senegal, Ecuador

The first group sees the tournament hosts themselves making their World Cup debut, as well as three-time World Cup finalists, the Netherlands. There’s everything still to play for, with the Netherlands and Ecuador tied on four points and Senegal on three. While the Dutch face a weak Qatari side and are expected to progress, Senegal face Ecuador in a sort of decider match as the winner will progress. A draw will see Ecuador through on goal ♏difference.

  • List Icon

Group B: England, United States, Wales, Iran

Statistically speaking, Group B is the hardest, having the highest average World Ranking compared to the other groups. Any team in group 2 could progress depending on the circumstances. Wales are bottom but a high-scoring win could see them progress – this is highly unlikely as England will surely prevent that. The winner between Iran and USA will also go through, while Iran will progress with a draw.

  • List Icon

Group C: Argentina, Mexico, Poland, Saudi Arabia

Group C includes one of the competition favourites in Argentina, as well as tough opponents in Mexico and Poland. The upset of the tournament put a damper on Argentina’s hopes, but a great win against Mexico put them back on track.🃏 Anyone could progress if they win. As Argentina play against Poland and Saudi Arabia face Mexico, a Saudi Arabia win would be a huge shock after a lacklustre 2018 campaign.

  • List Icon

Group D: France, Denmark, Australia, Tunisia

The first group with two teams in the top 10 of the FIFA World Rankings, Denmark have been underwhꦜelming while France have shed the World Cup winner curse, already progressing to the knockou🔜t round. Second place is anyone’s game with the winner Australia vs Denmark being the most likely to finish second.

  • List Icon

Group E: Spain, Germany, Japan, Costa Rica

Considered ‘The Group of Death’, Group E features two world champions, arguably one of Asia’s best national teams and Costa Rica, who are n🃏o strangers to a ‘Group of Death’.

Round 1 was full of surprises. Spain battered Costa Rica 7-0 and Japan beat Germany 2-1. Spain ಌthen drew to Germany and Costa Rica redeemed themselves by beating Japan. Every team needs a win to secure their spot in the knockout. Germany 🧸have the biggest task ahead of them against Costa Rica, while a draw will see Spain qualify.

  • List Icon

Group F: Belgium, Croatia, Morocco, Canada

Another group set to be dominated by the Eu☂ropean nations,൲ featuring the last World Cup’s semi-finalist and finalists, this will be a tough group. A huge final round in Group F as table toppers Croatia on four points face Belgium, who have three points. The winner of this match will definitely qualify, with the other likely finish third after a strong Morocco side. The latter face the already eliminated Canada and a win will send them to the knockout rounds for the second time in their history.

  • List Icon

Group G: Brazil, Switzerland, Serbia, Cameroon

Featuring the tournament favourites Brazil, it’s another race for second place with Brazil set to qualify. It’s anyone’s guess for the other three teams, all with a chance of prog♉ressing.

We were bang on the money on this one. With Brazil already having qualified Switzerland, Serbia and Cameroon cꦚould all go through with a win, and some favourable results. Could Samuel Eto’o’s crazy prediction come to fruition?

  • List Icon

Group H: Portugal, Uruguay, Ghana, South Korea

Possibly Cristiano Ronaldo’s last World Cup, Portugal has the best odds to qualify from the group. Every team is still in with a chance. The winner between Ghana and Uruguay will most likely go through, but if South K💟orea beat Portugal, they’ll have a real fighting chance.

The World Cup qualification matches ended after 865 games played across six continents and 206 countries. Aܫ⛎s alway,s there were a number of notable teams missing out.

The standout European teams who failed to qualify for the 2022 tournament include Italy, who failed to enter consecutive tournaments for the first time ever, as well as 2018 World Cup quarter finalists Sweden and Russia. In addition, Erling Haaland will also miss out due to Norway finishing third in their qualifying group.

In South America, Peru bowed out in the playoffs against Australia, while Columbia and Chile missed out on the playoff spot altogether, meaning onl🤪y four South American teams will be competing this year.

Other notable exclusions include Africa Cup of Nations finalists Egypt, who routinely struggle to qualify. Nigeria have also failed to qualify after getting through the last six out of seven editions, with Algeria and Ivory Coast also failing to make the cut.

A unique tournament by many metrics, the World Cup is still the biggest competition of the year. So far it has been full of surprises and dark horses, with things only set to get more exciting as🧔 the compeജtition goes on.

The tournament kicked off🎉 on 20th November at 16:00 GMT. The final will take place on ജ18th December 2022 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium at 18:00 GMT.

Many of the top bookmakers come up with great World Cup offers, however, we suggest bet365, Paddy Power, or BetVictor for the best odds.

France facedꦐ Croatia in the final in 2018, with the match ending 4-2 in a victory for the French.

Harry Kane was the player to score the most goals (6) in the last World Cup. Belgium was the country with the most goals (16), followed ಌby France and Croatia (🎐14 each).

Many betting sites offer free bets as part of their welcome offer. Other World Cup offers were launched closer꧅ 🔥to the start of the tournament.

In the UK, the BBC anꩵd ITV are sharing coverage of the toꦆurnament.
